Spring Training Report: Robert Homers, Sox Hold On Late for 6-5 Win

by Jordan Lazowski

Thanks to some timely hitting and some quality pitching, the White Sox picked up their second win of the Spring yesterday afternoon, beating the Angels 6-5. Luis Robert and Tim Anderson led the team on offense, and Jimmy Lambert started a quality afternoon for the pitching staff with a scoreless start. The White Sox improved to 2-8-3 on the Spring.

W: Kyle Kubat (1-0) L: Shohei Ohtani (0-1) S: Felipe Paulino (1)

Position Players

Some White Sox regulars had some great days at the plate today, as Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada, Luis Robert, and Adam Eaton all recorded hits in the effort yesterday. Luis Robert homered off of Shohei Ohtani, while Yoan Moncada would later drive in two runs of his own. Leury Garcia also turned in a three-hit game, homering as well. All said, a great afternoon for the White Sox on offense.

Pitchers

Jimmy Lambert started off the afternoon with eight quick pitches and two quick strikeouts. He looked excellent, and I’m excited about his growth throughout the season.

As for the rest of the bullpen: Matt Foster struggled in his first relief outing of the Spring, while Ryan Burr, Kyle Kubat, Connor Sadzeck, Alex McRae, and Mike Wright all turned in scoreless outings. Felipe Paulino hit some bumps in the ninth, but was able to close out the South Siders’ second win of the Spring.

Next Game

Sunday vs. Oakland: Lance Lynn (CHW) vs. Frankie Montas (OAK), 3:05 PM CT

Lance Lynn will make his third Spring start for the White Sox this afternoon after two previous scoreless outings. He will go against Frankie Montas, who is making his first start of the Spring.

This game will be televised on MLB Network and MLB.TV, and will be available on the MLB At-Bat app to listen to as well.

Jimmy Lambert is talented and could challenge for the no.5 spot at some point. The pitching staff appears to be more settled due to the presence of Ethan Katz.Katz appears to be more knowledgable and communicative than Cooper was and I anticipate the Sox staff will soon reap the benefits.Signing Katz may be the best off season move.
