Report: White Sox to sign Cuban 3B prospect Alejandro Cruz

by Thatcher Zalewski

The White Sox are already looking ahead to their international class for 2025.

According to Francys Romero, the club is expected to sign third-base prospect Alejandro Cruz for approximately $2 million when the new international signing period opens on January 15, 2025. Despite being eligible to sign in this year’s signing period, Romero reports that Cruz will wait due to limitations with the White Sox’s current international budget.

Cruz, 17, currently profiles as a third baseman, but Romero said in a post earlier this offseason that he has the skills to play multiple positions. Romero also mentioned that Cruz is a solid athlete with good contact ability and an above-average arm, making him a very intriguing addition to the organization.

Looking at his past, Cruz was most recently a member of Cuba’s U-18 National team at just 16 years of age last year. According to Romero, he batted .337 (30-89), with six doubles, two triples, 12 RBIs and 10 stolen bases with the team.

Unfortunately, this is the extent of available information on Cruz, though we are hoping more comes to light as the upcoming signing period approaches.
