Report: White Sox to announce Chris Getz as head of baseball ops on Thursday

by Jordan Lazowski

The White Sox are beginning a new era in their front office with a promotion from within.

According to Danny Parkins of 670 The Score, the White Sox are planning to announce Chris Getz as the team’s next lead baseball decision-maker on Thursday. There is expected to be a press conference for this news that has been swirling as early as Monday of this week.

This news should likely come as no surprise to those who have been following the news since Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams were fired, as Getz’s name was the first to be rumored as early as hours after Hahn and Williams were fired. The team will be looking to find their next Director of Player Development as well; based on their current organization structure, it would appear Kenny Williams Jr, as the team’s Assistant Director of Player Development, is in charge until Getz finds a replacement.

News of who will stay and who will go in the organization is likely coming – reports have said that there are likely to be large changes within the team’s scouting department (both amateur and pro scouting). Other reports have said that multiple people within the organization (outside of Reinsdorf) are pleased with this decision. There have been no further reports on Dayton Moore’s status as well, and although Getz is likely to bring on someone to assist him in the future, one thing seems to be clear: there will in fact be one lead decision-maker in the front office.

More information will be provided as the White Sox make this announcement official and give details of the time of the press conference.

Getz is one of the reasons for this mess to begin with! He was responsible for player development. WHAT DEVELOPMENT??? Reinsdorf has made it clear he wants “yes men” not real talent evaluators! Business as usual on the south side! I’ve lost all respect!

I have no idea if this guy is any good or will be any good at this new role. However, few would argue that the White Sox minor league and player development is among the worst in all of baseball. It seems like promoting from within would be more of the same and not the shake up that is truly needed. I’m sure those within the organization are thrilled as it makes it more likely that they will keep jobs.
