With the Indians losing the first game of their doubleheader and currently losing the second game, the White Sox used today’s game as a good way to gain ground in the division. Led by Lance Lynn and Leury Garcia, the White Sox did exactly that with a 6-1 victory.
Lance Lynn was excellent on the mound, battling some control issues in the mid-innings to cover six strong innings. He was followed by scoreless outings from Ryan Burr, Codi Heuer, Garrett Crochet, and Jose Ruiz.
On offense, the White Sox pounded out 15 hits, and every starter who had a hit had a multi-hit game. Leury Garcia paced the offense with three RBIs and fell a double short of the cycle, while Tim Anderson did not record an out on the day.
With the win, the White Sox move to 51-35 on the season.
W: Lance Lynn (9-3) | L: Michael Pineda (3-5)
Savant Leaders
Notable Performances
Lance Lynn: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 13 Swinging Strikes
After his fellow All-Star starter Carlos Rodon dealt last night, Lynn gave another stellar performance of his own, covering six innings while only giving up one run. Lynn lost his command in some of the later innings today, but his ability to keep the White Sox in the lead and limit any damage was incredibly important when the game was still tight.
Lynn lowered his ERA to 1.99 on the season in this start.
Leury Garcia: 3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R
Leury Garcia has really figured things out since June, and he has been a big part of the White Sox offense since then. The utility man fell a double short of the cycle today, and if he can continue to provide this sort of value to the White Sox in the summer months, the South Siders will be in a great place once the reinforcements come.
Brian Goodwin: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI
Brian Goodwin continues to be a great mid-season pickup by Rick Hahn and the White Sox front office. Goodwin came into the game slashing .326/.446/.696 against RHP on the season, and he continued his assault today with two more hits. With the White Sox DFA’ing Adam Eaton today, the Sox are going to need Goodwin to continue to step up and provide for the offense.
Tim Anderson: 4-for-4, RBI, R
The straw that stirs the drink at the top of the lineup is starting to come out of his mini-slump. Anderson reached base all five times today and has self-proclaimed himself “locked-in” at the plate.
Tim Anderson has now reached base in 8 straight plate appearances and is up to .307/.346/.422 on the season.
Other Notable Performances:
Adam Engel: 2-for-4, 2 R
Jake Burger: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI
Billy Hamilton: 2-for-4, R
Moment of the Game
The moment of today’s game had very little to do with the outcome. It was still really fun, though.
