White Sox’s World Baseball Classic opponent revealed for March exhibition

Though the White Sox have already unveiled their 2023 Spring Training schedule, a unique opponent has been added to the mix.

As part of Major League Baseball’s 20 exhibition games featuring Major League Clubs and World Baseball Classic National Teams, the White Sox will take on Team Colombia on Thursday, March 9th. Though the start time is still to be determined, the game will be held at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.

Though the venture was announced previously, exhibition match-ups weren’t released until this afternoon by World Baseball Classic Inc. Ten games with World Baseball Classic ties will be played in both the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues across March 8th-9th, preceding the Saturday, March 11th start of 2023 World Baseball Classic tournament play in the Phoenix and Miami pools.

The two-day, 20-game schedule is as follows:

Arizona

Wednesday, March 8th

  • Team USA @ the San Francisco Giants, Scottsdale
  • Team Canada @ the Chicago Cubs, Mesa
  • Team Great Britain @ the Milwaukee Brewers, Phoenix
  • Team Colombia @ the Oakland Athletics, Mesa
  • Team Mexico @ the Cleveland Guardians, Goodyear

Thursday, March 9th

  • Team Mexico @ the Colorado Rockies, Scottsdale
  • Team USA @ the Los Angeles Angels, Tempe
  • Team Canada @ the Seattle Mariners, Peoria
  • Team Colombia @ the Chicago White Sox, Glendale
  • Team Great Britain @ the Kansas City Royals, Surprise

Florida

Wednesday, March 8th

  • Team Puerto Rico @ the Boston Red Sox, Lee County (JetBlue Park)
  • Team Venezuela @ the Houston Astros, West Palm Beach
  • Team Dominican Republic @ the Atlanta Braves, North Port
  • Team Israel @ the Miami Marlins, Jupiter
  • Team Nicaragua @ the New York Mets, Port St. Lucie

Thursday, March 9th

  • Team Puerto Rico @ the Tampa Bay Rays, Port Charlotte
  • Team Venezuela @ the New York Mets, Port St. Lucie
  • Team Dominican Republic @ the Minnesota Twins, Lee County (Hammond)
  • Team Israel @ the Washington Nationals, West Palm Beach
  • Team Nicaragua @ the St. Louis Cardinals, Jupiter

The White Sox’s 2023 spring schedule is comprised of 15 home games at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, including against the San Diego Padres in their opener on Saturday, February 25, and the Chicago Cubs on Friday, March 17. The Sox and Cubs will also face off three times at Sloan Park in Mesa: Friday, March 10, Monday, March 27, and Tuesday, March 28 – the spring finale.

Additional weekend spring training home games include Friday, March 3 vs. the Reds, Saturday, March 4 vs. the Rangers, Sunday, March 12 vs. the Angels, Saturday, March 18 vs. the Dodgers, and Sunday, March 26 vs. the Rockies.

The White Sox will open the 2023 regular season on Thursday, March 30 at the Houston Astros.
