The World Baseball Classic quarterfinals are in the books, with the tournament now down to its final four teams:
- Dominican Republic (Seranthony Dominguez)
- United States
- Italy (Sam Antonacci)
- Venezuela
Here’s how White Sox players fared over the past two days!
Team Canada
Michael Soroka (SP)
2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
The Canadians turned to Michael Soroka on Friday night, who surrendered three runs in his first three innings. Though the bats fought back to score three of their own in the sixth inning, Canada still found themselves in a two-run deficit and ultimately couldn’t get enough offense going against the U.S.
FINAL: United States 5, Canada 3 | Box Score
Team Italy
Sam Antonacci (2B)
0-for-3, BB, R, 2 K
Though the White Sox second baseman went hitless, Sam Antonacci still managed to plate Italy’s first run after reaching on a leadoff walk in the first. The Italians will look to continue their incredible run against Venezuela on Monday night in Miami.
FINAL: Italy 8, Puerto Rico 6 | Box Score
Team Japan
Munetaka Murakami (1B)
1-for-4, K
Speaking of Venezuela, they knocked out Mune and the reigning champs in an electric atmosphere on Saturday night. The White Sox first baseman leaves Miami with an opposite-field single in his last at-bat and will now return to Arizona to continue preparations for his first MLB season.
FINAL: Venezuela 8, Japan 5 | Box Score
Team Dominican Republic
Seranthony Dominguez (RHP)
The White Sox’s closer will be advancing to the next stage in Miami. Though his services weren’t needed in the DR’s quarterfinal win over Korea, expect to see Dominguez on Sunday if a high-leverage situation arises against the United States.
