White Sox Update – November 30, 2018

by Joe Binder

Friday was a very busy day for the Chicago White Sox as they made both additions and subtractions to their roster. Here’s what happened:

  • INF/OF Leury Garcia and the White Sox agreed to a $1.55 million deal for the 2019 season, avoiding arbitration. Garcia hit .271 with 4 HR, 32 RBI, and a .303 OBP in 82 games in 2018.
  • 3B/DH Matt Davidson was non-tendered, immediately making him a free agent. In 2018, the righty hit .228 with 20 HR, and 62 RBI in 123 games. Davidson also continued to struggle with his plate discipline, striking out 165 times while owning a .319 OBP. He was eligible for arbitration as a Super Two player.
  • OF Avisail Garcia was non-tendered, immediately making him a free agent. In 2018, Avi hit .236 with 19 HR, 49 RBI, and a .281 OBP in just 93 games. This move came after rumors circulated a few weeks back that the team was trying to trade Garcia.
  • RHP Alex Colome was acquired from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for C Omar Narvaez. This trade marks the first major move made by the White Sox this offseason. For more information on the deal, check out Jonnie Nonnie’s article here.
