White Sox Update: Fedde, Murakami, Getz, Venable

Happy pitchers and catchers report day to all who celebrate!

Here are the latest news, notes, and anecdotes coming out of the White Sox complex in Arizona.

RHP Erick Fedde returns on a one-year deal

The White Sox officially agreed to terms with right-hander Erick Fedde on a one-year deal. With the righty having passed his physical, he is set to make $1.5 million this season.

The 31-year-old returns to Chicago after delivering one of the best stretches of his career in 2024, going 7–4 with a 3.11 ERA (42 ER in 121.2 IP), 3.77 FIP, 1.14 WHIP, and an 8.0 K/9 across 21 starts. He was eventually traded at the deadline in a three-team deal involving Tommy Pham and Michael Kopech, landing Dodgers third baseman Miguel Vargas as the key return piece.

Though he struggled in 2025, going 4–13 with a 5.49 ERA, Fedde becomes an intriguing project for new White Sox pitching coach Zach Bove. If the staff can help the right-hander rediscover his 2024 form, Fedde could factor into a crowded competition for a rotation spot.

Munetaka Murakami reports to Spring Training

The White Sox’s star Japanese player made his first appearance at Camelback Ranch on Sunday and has been the primary focus for all media in attendance.

Based on photos and videos, Munetaka Murakami received a tour of the complex before getting some reps on the field and in the cage over the weekend. He’s continued to stay active the past two days as he gets acclimated to his new team.

Sadly, the White Sox showed it’s also Spring Training for the clubhouse attendants, as Murakami posted a photo of his nameplate mispelled at his locker. His emoji usage at least made it seem like he was able to play off the incident.

The Sox were quick to fix the error the following day. Still, it’s not the best first impression for your marquee signing.

White Sox trade RHP Bryan Hudson to Mets

The White Sox traded righty reliever Bryan Hudson to the Mets in exchange for cash considerations. Hudson was previously DFA’d to make room for outfielder Austin Hays.

Hudson, 28, went a combined 0-1 with a 4.80 ERA (8 ER/15.0 IP) and 19 strikeouts over 16 appearances between Milwaukee and Chicago last season. He was claimed by the Sox off waivers from the Brewers on August 3, and only made four appearances for the big-league squad.

Chris Getz meets the media

The White Sox GM met with the media on Monday to touch on some early storylines before camp began.

Here are some highlights:

Noah Schultz on injury recovery, 2026 outlook

Top pitching prospect Noah Schultz is back on the bump after recovering from a right knee injury suffered last season. He spoke with MLB.com’s Scott Merkin about his current health and the possibility of debuting in 2026.

Hagen Smith on 2025 performance

Fellow southpaw Hagen Smith also spoke to Merkin about his goals this spring as well as his 2025 season, which fell short of his personal expectations.

Scott Boras on Luis Robert Jr. to the Mets

Staying on the topic of the Mets, newly acquired outfielder Luis Robert Jr. apparently has worked out with Juan Soto this offseason.

Scott Boras revealed this in an interview with A.J. Pierzynski on Foul Territory by saying, “He’s got two things he didn’t have in Chicago. He’s got the presence of a superstar to rely on, and he has a chance to win every day.”

Ouch.

Will Venable meets the media

The White Sox skipper got in front of the mics on Tuesday. The session started on a somber note as Venable remembered the late Terrance Gore, who recently passed away.
