White Sox transfer Luis Robert’s rehab assignment to Triple-A Charlotte

by Joe Binder

We have some positive news regarding Luis Robert to share.

The White Sox announced the outfielder’s injury rehab assignment has been transferred today from High-A Winston-Salem to Triple-A Charlotte. Robert is already with the Knights and will most likely be in their starting lineup tonight.

Robert, 23, was cleared for baseball activity last week and began his rehab with High-A Winston-Salem this past Wednesday. In four games with the Dash, the 23-year-old slashed .250/.308/.333 (3-for-12), with a double and three RBI.

Robert, 23, is coming off a Grade 3 right hip flexor strain, a complete tear that has left him sidelined since early May. The injured occurred when the centerfielder stumbled down the first base line while trying to beat out an infield single. At the time, it was clear that something wasn’t right as he started hopping towards the end of his sprint before falling to the ground in pain.

As with Eloy Jimenez, Robert will have a maximum of 20 days for a minor-league rehab assignment. Considering he’s already nearing a week, it would seem likely that he spends another week to 10 days with Charlotte before the White Sox make a decision on his health. If he shows no issues and follows a similar timeline to Jimenez, albeit the two suffered different injuries, Robert could be back in the lineup by the second week of August.

So far in his second season with the Sox, Robert is hitting .316/.359/.463 (30-95) with nine doubles, a triple, home run and eight RBI in 25 games. His sort of presence in the lineup along with his glove in centerfield would be very much welcomed, even though the combination of Brian Goodwin, Billy Hamilton, Adam Engel, and others have held their own during his absence.

We’ll be following this story and others throughout the remainder of the week. Be sure to follow us on social media @SoxOn35th for more updates!
