A familiar face is returning to the South Side.
The White Sox have signed right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde to a one-year deal, as first reported by the New York Post’s Joel Sherman. The agreement is pending a physical, with financial terms not yet disclosed.
Fedde, 31, originally signed a two-year deal with the White Sox in December 2023 and quickly became the club’s biggest offseason addition. After reinventing himself overseas in the KBO, the former Washington National delivered one of the best stretches of his career, going 7–4 with a 3.11 ERA (42 ER in 121.2 IP), 3.77 FIP, 1.14 WHIP, and an 8.0 K/9 across 21 starts in Chicago. He was eventually traded at the deadline in a three-team deal involving Tommy Pham and Michael Kopech, landing Dodgers third baseman Miguel Vargas as the key return piece.
Following his departure, Fedde has bounced around the National League, making appearances for St. Louis, Atlanta, and Milwaukee in 2025. The results were far less encouraging, as he finished the season with a 4–13 record, 5.49 ERA, 5.20 FIP, and 1.52 WHIP over 141.0 innings. The bulk of his appearances came as a starter, though he did come out of the bullpen on eight different occasions.
The constant movement between teams likely didn’t help matters, but Fedde also struggled to find consistency. His cutter and sinker were hit hard, and his strikeout rate dipped sharply, from an already below-average 21.6 percent in 2024 to a troubling 13.3 percent in 2025.
One bright spot came during his stint with the Cardinals, when he tossed the first complete game of his MLB career, shutting out his former Nationals club. Fedde struck out eight, walked none, and allowed just six hits over 109 pitches in an efficient performance.
Now back in Chicago, Fedde becomes an intriguing project for new White Sox pitching coach Zach Bove. If the staff can help the right-hander rediscover his 2024 form, Fedde could factor into a crowded competition for a spot in the rotation. At worst, he could serve as a multi-inning reliever on a low-risk deal.
Should Fedde replicate anything close to his breakout 2024 season, he could once again become a valuable trade deadline asset. That original deal has already paid dividends for the White Sox, as Vargas has settled in nicely as the club’s everyday third baseman and shown steady improvement over the past season and a half.
As the White Sox head into 2026, Fedde projects as an innings-eater, a veteran presence, and a familiar face at 35th and Shields, one who could still have plenty left to offer.
