While the White Sox continue to search for a catcher at the Major League level, they’ve added to their Triple-A depth by picking up veteran Eric Haase.
Haase, who spent six seasons in the American League Central with both Cleveland and Detroit, joined the Knights on Tuesday, according to the team on X.
The backstop opened his 2026 with the San Francisco Giants, but was designated for assignment on July 17 after slashing .162/.235/.365 across 84 plate appearances. The Giants released him on the 23rd.
Haase posted similar, albeit slightly better numbers with the Brewers across 77 plate appearances in 2025. His most recent season of at least league-average production was in 2024, when he logged a 123 OPS+ during a short stint with the Brewers.
The veteran has been productive over longer periods in the past, most recently in 2022, when he hit 14 home runs and 17 doubles, and 2021, when he slugged 22 homers.
One of Haase’s 2021 home runs was of the inside-the-park variety, which Sox fans may remember came at the expense of a Billy Hamilton near-miss on a diving attempt.
Haase slots into Edgar Quero‘s spot in Charlotte, and should split playing time with Michael Turner and Korey Lee. None of the Knights’ three backstops are on the Sox’ 40-man roster, so if either Quero or Drew Romo suffers an injury before the Sox add a presumptive catcher at the deadline, Haase could be the next man up.
For now, though, he’ll look to regain his early 2020s form in the hitter-friendly Truist Field.
