The season of giving is upon us and one White Sox player continues to make the most of it.
White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson and his League of Leaders foundation returned to his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama to host his fifth annual turkey drive-thru on Monday. During the event, Anderson gave away 205 frozen turkeys on a first come, first serve basis at his alma mater – Hillcrest High School.
“You know where I’m from it’s all love,” Anderson said in a local news report by WVUA 23. “I’m just trying to do what’s right. And you know, I understand the process that I went through, the struggles that I had to go through. I understand what people go through. So it’s only right to come back where I was born and raised and give back.”
“I just want to make sure everyone gets a turkey,” Anderson continued in his interview, “and for the most part, just really have fun. Show lots of love.”
Anderson, 29, initiated the founding of his organization following the death of Branden Moss, one of his best friends and a 2012 Hillcrest High School graduate. Since then, Anderson’s League of Leaders has been committed to providing a helping hand in the Tuscaloosa, AL, and Chicago, IL communities through various acts of service.
According to its website, the group has amassed over 100 volunteers, hosted four back-to-school drives giving close to 600 free haircuts, donated $2,000 in scholarships, and donated a total of $12,000 to nonprofits with similar missions. They have also formed several noteworthy partnerships such as the Youth Guidance’s BAM and WOW programs, and Turning Point Domestic Violence and Sexual Assaults Services.
