We are down to the final 72 hours before the trade deadline, and with only one move made between the Rangers and Angels, we’re likely going to see a flurry of moves start to happen within the next 24 hours. The White Sox are absolutely expected to be one of those teams making some improvements, and based on the latest rumors, they are full steam ahead on starting pitching.

Freddy Peralta scratched, White Sox reportedly interested
Freddy Peralta has struggled in New York this season, but that hasn’t stopped teams from being interested in him at the trade deadline – including the White Sox.
According to Pat Ragazzo of Athlon Sports, the White Sox were among the teams that planned on scouting Freddy Peralta’s expected final start with the New York Mets on Friday night at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins. However, Peralta was scratched from his outing five hours before first pitch with interest from other teams increasing, and to avoid the risk of injury or poor performance.
While no one has backed up Ragazzo’s report on the White Sox’ interest, Joel Sherman did confirm that Peralta was scratched because of the increased interest in him leading up to the trade deadline.
Peralta, 30, is 5-9 this season with a 4.99 ERA, a far cry from where he has been at points throughout his career as an ace for the Milwaukee Brewers. From 2021-2025, he posted a 3.30 ERA/3.65 FIP with the Brew Crew, so his struggles have been contained to his first season in Queens. It’s unclear what the cost might be for Peralta, but he would just be a rental, as he was traded for his final year of control over the offseason.
White Sox watched Holmes, Rogers; remain interested in Detmers, Bieber
As Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports put it, the South Siders are casting a wide net while trying to upgrade their roster ahead of the deadline. According to Dorsey, Reid Detmers remains high on the White Sox’ list because of his remaining years of control that would fit well with this current core. However, in recent days, they have watched both Clay Holmes’ recent rehab start, as well as sent representatives to watch Trevor Rogers take on the Detroit Tigers.
Tarik Skubal also happened to be pitching that day opposite Rogers, but there is no report of strong interest from the White Sox in acquiring Skubal.
The White Sox’ interest in Holmes and Detmers have already been well-documented, but Shane Bieber and Trevor Rogers are two recent names that the White Sox have had a connection to. The team is obviously quite familiar with Bieber from his years in Cleveland, but the 31-year-old has battled injuries for most of the past three seasons. In his return from the IL this season, Bieber is 2-2 with a 5.74 ERA/6.33 FIP, so things have certainly been better for him in the past.
Bieber would represent a pretty cheap upgrade if this were the direction the White Sox went, but it’s unclear if his stuff will be of value to the team down the stretch. His velocity, however, has been fairly consistent both pre and post-injury.
As for Rogers, his availability is still dependent on the Orioles being willing to sell. On the season, the 28-year-old is 6-7 with a 4.27 ERA/3.57 FIP. Before this week’s outing with the Tigers, he was on a run of nine consecutive starts giving up three runs or fewer, posting a 1.80 ERA/2.71 FIP across that stretch.
Don’t let his overall season numbers fool you: he’s been a different pitcher in recent weeks. Trading for him would give the White Sox someone with near-top-of-the-rotation potential that has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the past two months. Like Bieber, he is a rental, so the price would need to be right for the White Sox to feel good about the short-term upgrade.
