The White Sox will be without one of their relievers for the next few games.

Prior to Sunday’s series finale vs. Detroit, the team placed right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly on the Family Medical Leave List. Left-handed reliever Tanner Banks was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte as the corresponding move.

Kelly, 34, has gone 1-3 with a 6.42 ERA (24 ER/33.2 IP), 14 holds, and 46 strikeouts over 39 games (one start) in 2022. Though struggling mightily during his first season on the South Side, the reliever has made five-straight scoreless outings, allowing two hits with nine strikeouts over his last 4.2 innings pitched.

Kelly must remain on the Family Medical Leave List for a minimum of three days and no more than seven, per the club.

Banks, 30, is 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA (17 ER/47.0 IP), one hold, and 40 strikeouts in 32 relief appearances with the White Sox this season. He has made nine appearances (two starts) with Charlotte, going 0-1 with a 2.65 ERA (5 ER/17.0 IP) and 24 strikeouts.
