White Sox Odds: Several Players to Watch for Individual Awards

by Sox On 35th Contributors

We’re inching closer to the start of baseball season (positive vibes only for this lockout to end soon), and that means that more futures bets are starting to pop up at various sportsbooks. Recently, DraftKings posted odds for player awards for fans to wager on!

For those who might not be familiar, “futures bets” are wagers on an outcome that won’t be decided in the near future as a single game would be. Instead, you bet on events off in the distance – like who will win the World Series, for example.

Here’s what Vegas is thinking of the White Sox players’ chances to take home some individual hardware:

American League MVP

  • Luis Robert (+3500)
    • Bet $100, win $3500
  • Jose Abreu (+3500)
    • Bet $100, win $3500
  • Tim Anderson (+3500)
    • Bet $100, win $3500
  • (+5000) Eloy Jimenez (+5000)
    • Bet $100, win $5000
  • Yoan Moncada (+6000)
    • Bet $100, win $6000
  • Yasmani Grandal (+10000)
    • Bet $100, win $10000

American League Cy Young

  • Lucas Giolito (+1100)
    • Bet $100, win $1100
  • Dylan Cease (+1200)
    • Bet $100, win $1200
  • Lance Lynn (+1200)
    • Bet $100, win $2200

American League Rookie of the Year

  • Jake Burger (+9000)
    • Bet $100, win $9000

My reaction when seeing these? Wow, Vegas sure does think highly of the White Sox rotation and lineup heading into 2022. The only other teams with three pitchers in the Top 20 for AL Cy Young odds are the Oakland A’s (Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas, Chris Bassit) and the Toronto Blue Jays (Robbie Ray, Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios). The White Sox lineup having six of the 41 listed players for MVP odds is also a welcome sign for this team.

The Jake Burger longshot odds make sense, as there doesn’t seem to be a clear path to regular playing time for him in this lineup, unfortunately.

Who am I putting my money on? I have to go with Luis Robert to win MVP and Dylan Cease to win the Cy Young. I liked their chances to lead the league in some categories, and I think they have a great shot at taking home some hardware as well.

One important thing to know about futures bets:

Your bet doesn’t necessarily have to win for you to take home some money. Many sportsbooks will offer cashouts on futures bets during the season, so if the player you wagered on is doing well early on, you can cash out early and pocket some quick cash.
