White Sox losing ground in latest All-Star balloting update

by Joe Binder

Last week, we received our first balloting update for the 2021 All-Star Game and it featured four White Sox players among the American League leaders. That hot start has since cooled off, as several of those players are now slipping in the latest update released this morning.

Yoan Moncada, who came in second among third baseman last week, now ranks third with Alex Bregman gaining a 56,391 vote advantage for the two-spot. First baseman Jose Abreu (301,354) also sank to third place among first baseman, while Tim Anderson (347,842) fell out of the top three for shortstops entirely.

Elsewhere, catcher Yasmani Grandal (141,801) maintained the second spot for backstops, while second baseman Nick Madrigal (244,919) and designated hitter Yermin Mercedes (225,843) held on to the four-spot at their respective positions.

For players to advance to the second phase of voting, they must rank in the top three at their positions. The first phase of All-Star voting will conclude this Thursday, June 24th at 2:59 p.m. CDT.

After that, phase two will begin on Monday, June 28th, with fans voting for one of three finalists at each position to determine the starters. The four-day window for phase two will conclude on Thursday, July 1st, with pitchers and reserves for both leagues being determined through player ballots and commissioner’s office selections.
