The Chicago White Sox have had some very notable and experimental uniforms throughout the team’s history. Examples include the always classic 1983’s, the powder blue and red road uniforms from the 1970’s, and perhaps the most notable, Bill Veeck’s infamous “shorts” worn during 1976.
Looking through the team’s uniform history has inspired me to create some new concepts for Major League Baseball’s upcoming uniform deal starting in 2020. Happy Holidays, Sox Fans!
5. 1959 Uniforms – 60th Anniversary Edition
Right away, these uniforms make you think of the great Nellie Fox, Luis Aparicio, and Billy Pierce.
With no last names to remind players that they’re playing for the city, the uniforms also include a 60th anniversary patch to commemorate the team’s A.L. Championship accomplishment, and brown cleats to show some age.
4. MLB Players’ Weekend 2019
To keep the red and black theme going from the past two seasons, I paid respect to one of the better alternate jerseys in sports history: the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls pinstripes. Combined with the red and white “SOX” on the crest, I would love to see a similar look come Players’ Weekend 2019.
3. Updated 1983’s
This concept is quite basic but adds a ton of volume to the uniform. By adding striping in the middle of the jersey, it makes the ’83’s even more enjoyable to lay eyes on. The White Sox, in my opinion, have been using this uniform for too long. By adding a minor touch up to them, it would satisfy me as a fan. Still, there’s no denying that this is the greatest uniform in White Sox history.
2. MLB City Edition
These were inspired by the NBA City edition uniforms that took the league by storm just last season. Since the city has done so much for this team, it would be awesome to have a uniform dedicated to Chicago. The city’s flag is located on the sides of the pants along with a star that can be found under the “Chicago” writing on the crest. To top everything off, there’s a red Chicago skyline just above the belt to go along with the blue socks and red cleats. The jersey not only shows love to the city, but also the good old days of baseball, using the same color scheme and logos of the 1970’s era of White Sox baseball.
1. Turn Ahead The Clock
During the 1998 MLB season, the league gave us a glimpse of the future with outrageous jerseys that featured enormous logos. The Seattle Mariners originated this promotion, claiming it would be the style we would see in 2027. With cut off sleeves, an oversized logo, and a futuristic font, it would make a long lasting impact in uniform history. Just last season, Seattle had a promotional night to bring back the classic jersey’s once more. So why not have all the teams do it?
GOOD GOD are those ugly! UG-LEE!! The only one worth anything is the ’59 Go-Go White Sox uniforms. Showing white socks might be a good idea. How about those ’60’s blue pinstriped uniforms? They looked pretty snazzy.
All are horrible, but the 1959 “Go Go Sox” Jersey’s. Personally, I think they need to change the current jersey’s more than anything. I’m also burnt out on the 83-86 “Winning Ugly” uni’s that they sport on Sunday’s! I realize a lot of special things happened while the Sox wore those. I really enjoyed to see them in red 1972-1975 style a few years back on Sunday’s. A team that’s had so many different uniforms, I think they should switch it up every years on Sunday, along with a new road AND possibly an alternate (that HAS sleeves!) I’M waiting on the 87-90 or any of tbe late 60’s tbrowbacks to make guest appearances.

Why change what they have now? Keep a “special” commemorative Jersey for Sundays (love the ’83 jersey), then alternate the black and pinstripes. Friggin Front Office keeps tweaking and accomplishing nothing.
Just like the “canned” music, instead of an everyday organist.

This is an obvious example of trying to do to much. Took a ton of skill to make, but not the greatest designs. I’d love to see the spring training unis get incorporated somehow into the uni rotation.
Really digging these designs. Every person commenting “THESE ALL SUCK” clearly didn’t read the premise behind each one. These aren’t meant to be worn every day. Some comments and criticism:
– The updated, button-down ’83 set is a nice idea, but in reality the navy & red headspoon piping would cut across the ‘license plate’ design across the front of the jersey, which wouldn’t look good.
– The Turn Ahead the Clock set is nice but maybe a bit too tame. I also think the jersey would work better as a pullover. Maybe use the batter man logo on the cap a la their recent Spring Training cap design, too.
The City Edition set is awesome! I wish MLB would follow the NBA’s lead and introduce a similar promotion. If done right those jerseys would sell like hotcakes. Your take on the Players’ Weekend uniforms is certainly better than what the Sox wore last season. I really like the idea of the red pinstripes on black paying homage to the ’90s Bulls. Keep up the good work!

The red pinstripes that was worn in the Dick Allen days. 86 the rest of these concepts. And no smurf logo like the Cubs wear.

None of these have white socks so the branding is quite confusing.
Good Lord, we have the worst uniforms. Just wear the current uniforms, because those all are absolutely horrible.
White Sox needs an uniform refresh and each design based on the legacy of the Sox and has merit and worth serious consideration. Curious to see elements of each combined into one or two concepts plus prefer seeing retention of black and white color combination with emphasis on white.
Good effort. 59 is ok. Dont care for the others.
