White Sox infielder Jake Burger to launch mental health awareness website

by Joe Binder

Mental health can sometimes be a delicate topic that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. However, that is not stopping White Sox infield prospect Jake Burger from tackling it head on.

Burger announced today in a video that he will be starting a content-based website that deals primarily with mental health awareness. Though the project is still in its early stages, there’s already a wide variety of content planned out.

“What I’m going to originally post, and what the first type of thing that’s going to happen is a mini-series on all of my socials,” Burger explained in his video. “It’s going to be called the Burger B.O.M.B.S. community. It’s stuff that I used personally to get through my mental health battle and my mental health struggles. And, maybe you or a friend or a family member struggling and it could help you too.”

Once the mini-series reaches its conclusion, Burger plans for the launch of the website to follow. The site is said to have blog posts that cover mental health-related topics and everything in between. There will also be a podcast hosted by Burger, YouTube clips, links to other sites of relevance, and much more. The overall goal is to help those struggling and build a positive community of support, an initiative that’s very unique for an athlete to undertake.

“This is just the beginning, and I’m really excited for all of you to be along on this journey and kind of see where I got my help, and maybe I can help some of you,” said the St. Louis native.

For Burger, he’s been no stranger to the topic of mental health either. The 25-year-old notably opened up to the public about his struggles in 2020, something that’s incredibly brave and difficult for anyone to do. The decision ultimately influenced our graphic designer, Brandon Anderson, to discuss his personal battles in a blog, in which he also shared just how important Burger was in his fight. That’s why a project of this magnitude is incredible to hear about and deserves endless applauding. Luckily, it has an even better person at the forefront, and can hopefully lead to many more positive stories as a result.
