Everyone in Bridgeport is holding their breath.

White Sox First baseman Munetaka Murakami exited Friday night’s game against the Tigers with right hamstring tightness. The club also said he was undergoing further evaluation, with manager Will Venable estimating he would miss several weeks postgame.

The injury occurred in the bottom of the third inning while Murakami sprinted down the line on a fielder’s choice. After crossing first base, replays appeared to show him grabbing at his right hamstring. Following a brief exchange with Venable and the training staff, the Japanese slugger was removed from the game under his own power.

CHSN’s Brooke Fletcher spoke with Venable in between innings as part of Friday Night All-Access and asked for an update.

“I think [Murakami] tried to bust it down the line and the hamstring grabbed on him a little bit, so he’ll be evaluated, and we’ll see what we got.”

When asked if Murakami’s exit was mainly precautionary, Venable made it clear the club didn’t want him to risk worsening the injury by playing through it.

“I mean, obviously it grabbed on him. And in that instance, you just want to make sure he’s alright and not push it. Obviously, with all of our guys we want to protect them and make sure they’re healthy.”

Though further testing will give a clearer prognosis, Venable revealed postgame that the initial evaluation revealed a hamstring strain. Mune is to get further imaging done on Saturday, but is expected to miss a couple of weeks.

As the team provides more information, we will give further updates.
