Javier Mogollon stepped to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning during the Dash’ first playoff game in 8 years, facing an 8-5 deficit. With two outs and two runners on, he promptly launched a dramatic, game-tying home run to send the game to extras, where Nick McLain drilled a walk-off double to deep center field.
The Dash had already clawed out of a 6-0 hole earlier in the night to make it a one-run game before the Bowling Green Hot Rods added to their lead. The Dash now head to Bowling Green, needing to win one of their next two games to advance to the South Atlantic League Championship Series.
Elsewhere on the farm, Drew Thorpe turned in another sharp outing in Triple-A, and Jordan Sprinkle sent Barons’ fans home happy with a walk-off single.
All this and more in today’s farm report!
High-A Winston-Salem Dash (lead series 1-0)
McLain’s double and Mogollon’s home run were just the final steps in an impressive Dash comeback.
Trailing 6-0 in the fourth inning and without a baserunner to that point, Kyle Lodise drew a two-out walk followed by a James Taussig home run to get the Dash on the board. Jeral Perez and McLain continued the two-out rally ahead of Braden Holcomb, whose first career High-A home run brought Winston-Salem within one.
Equally as important in the win was the Dash bullpen. Trey Cooper, Max Banks, Aric McAtee, and Carlton Perkins each delivered scoreless outings after the Hot Rods tagged starter Drew McDaniel for five runs in just 2.2 innings.
