There was a lot of movement within the Sox system ahead of Friday’s games. Ryan Galanie and Rikuu Nishida made the jump to AAA, while Jacob Burke and Alec Makarewicz took their spots in Birmingham.
Makarewicz and Nishida looked right at home with their new teams. Makarewicz logged two hits, including a home run, while Nishida left the ballpark for just the second time in 274 Minor League games. Braden Montgomery and George Wolkow also found the seats on Friday.

Triple-A Charlotte Knights (7-11)
The impossible has happened! Rikuu Nishida, in his first game with the Knights, plated the team’s only run on a 9th-inning solo shot to right. It’s just his second home run as a member of the organization. The 24-year-old last homered on July 27, 2024, with the Cannon Ballers, meaning he spent his entire A+ and AA tenures without going deep.
The rest of the lineup, besides Korey Lee and Caden Connor, couldn’t figure out MLB’s No. 34 overall prospect Robby Snelling, who struck out nine over six shutout innings.
Tanner McDougal took his first loss of the year, being tagged for three runs in 4.1 innings. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp forced McDougal to fire 84 pitches, contributing to his early exit from the game.

Double-A Birmingham Barons (5-8)
A lot went right for the Barons on Friday, but not enough to pull out the win. Shane Murphy fired his second-straight quality start, Braden Montgomery crushed his fourth homer of the season and Alec Makarewicz went deep in his first AA game this year.
It wasn’t enough, though, as the Rocket City Trash Pandas scored three in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead, handing the Barons their 8th loss of the year.

High-A Winston-Salem Dash (8-5)
George Wolkow crushed his second home run of the season in the Dash’s win on Friday, and Boston Smith continued his torrid start with a homer and triple. Smith, acquired last month for Curtis Mead, now has four extra-base hits in two games with the Dash and seven in ten games this season overall.

The Cannon Ballers also used a pair of home runs en route to a Friday victory. Arxy Hernandez and Rylan Galvan each went deep in a 5-2, ten-inning win.
Galvin’s blast tied the game in the ninth, while James Taussig and Jaden Fauske plated runs in the 10th with a pair of base hits. Pierce George shut the door in the bottom of the frame to seal the victory.
