Though the Barons lost, Samuel Zavala ignited the offense, accounting for three runs for one of the three White Sox affiliates that suffered defeats Friday night. Birmingham couldn’t overcome a disastrous seventh inning, giving up eight runs and ultimately falling 8-5 to the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Early in the game, Birmingham’s pitching staff showed strong potential: Connor McCullough and Chase Watkins together threw 5.1 scoreless innings and registered eight strikeouts. The offense displayed power with solo home runs from Zavala, who finished with three hits, and Caden Connor, but the Barons stranded nine runners and fell short.
Charlotte was the only winning team, securing a 10th-inning walk-off after 2B Mario Camilletti singled to drive in Korey Lee and defeat the Memphis Redbirds, who had come back from an early 7-0 deficit. This game-winning RBI was Camilletti’s second of both the night and the season. Charlotte built its early lead off Memphis’s top lefty, Hagen Smith, who allowed no runs over three innings while striking out five and giving up two hits and two walks. He was followed by righty Wikelman González, who tossed two perfect innings with four strikeouts. The bullpen struggled in the seventh as Zach Franklin was responsible for five of the seven Memphis runs, but Charlotte limited the Redbirds to just one run the rest of the way.
Caleb Bonemer continued a hot start as the Dash were one of the two teams that fell on Friday. It was back-to-back homers for the White Sox’s top prospect. Dylan Cumming worked through five innings for the Dash, striking out five in two innings, but the start slowed in the third. The other was Kannapolis, which fell 4-3 as most bats went silent late. White Sox 2025 Round 3 pick Jaden Fauske collected an RBI triple in the contest, but Baller bats couldn’t do enough to overcome the Crawdads, only scoring in the third.
