White Sox Call Up Davis Martin; Outright Parker Markel

by Jordan Lazowski

After the White Sox put Reynaldo Lopez on the IL yesterday, the club made their corresponding move official by bringing up Davis Martin once again from Charlotte. In additional news, the team outright Parker Markel from their 40-man roster.

Martin will likely fill Lopez’s role as a mid-innings reliever until he makes his return. On the season, Martin has a 4.67 ERA in 27 innings pitched. Lopez, who’s turned into a valuable member of the White Sox bullpen, hasn’t appeared in game action since Saturday, July 23. Over 37 appearances this season, the right-hander has gone 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA (14 ER/42.1 IP), 5.50 K/W, 1.68 FIP, and 1.063 WHIP.

The most interesting part of these moves is the outright of Parker Markel, which means the White Sox have removed him from the 40-man roster. Markel was claimed earlier this year from the Athletics, and in 33 innings pitched, he has a 3.82 ERA between the A’s and the White Sox.

In marking this move, the team has opened up a spot on the 40-man roster – which doesn’t seem like much of a coincidence with the Trade Deadline right around the corner. Look for the White Sox to continue to position themselves to make additions to the roster before the August 2nd Trade Deadline.
