White Sox announce their 44-player pool ahead of Summer Camp

by Joe Binder

The Chicago White Sox have announced their initial player pool for the club’s 2020 Summer Camp. The current roster consists of 44 players, 24 of which are pitchers, and leaves the team with 16 open slots they can fill.

The White Sox and the rest of Major League teams had until 3 PM CST on Sunday to submit their initial 60-man rosters, including a taxi squad of up to 20 eligible players that can train at an alternate site near their home stadium. Players not on the list are not eligible to participate in either spring training or the upcoming regular season until they are added. Once action begins on Opening Day, the active roster will be trimmed down to 30 players. It will then shrink to 28 after two weeks and to 26 after a month.

Below is a full list of the White Sox’s current 44-player pool.

Pitchers: 24

Catchers: 4

Infielders: 10

Outfielders: 6

The organization will be announcing additional players who will be invited to join the taxi squad at a later date. Some names to keep an eye on include guys on the 40-man roster such as Zack Burdi, Matt Foster, Bernardo Flores, Seby Zavala, Blake Rutherford, and Micker Adolfo. I also think there could be some younger arms added to this list like Garrett Crochet and Jared Kelley. While Crochet has Major League stuff already, adding both to the pool doesn’t guarantee either playing time and could be a smart move for the purpose of giving them reps with the team. We’ll see what direction the team decides to go in.

Summer camp officially begins this Friday, July 3rd, at Guaranteed Rate Field.
