The White Sox are bringing the 1983 “Winning Ugly” team back to 35th and Shields later this month.
Ahead of their Saturday, June 27th game against the Royals, the organization will host a special reunion honoring one of the most memorable teams in franchise history. Members of the 1983 American League West Division Championship club will be recognized as part of a pregame celebration and other festivities at Rate Field.
The reunion commemorates one of the most remarkable seasons in franchise history, highlighted by a 99-win campaign that marked the team’s first postseason appearance since the 1959 World Series.
Hall of Famers Harold Baines, Carlton Fisk and Tony La Russa are among the list of scheduled attendees, which also includes:
- Floyd Bannister
- Britt Burns
- Richard Dotson
- Scott Fletcher
- Lorenzo Gray
- Jerry Hairston
- Guy Hoffman
- Ron Kittle
- Dennis Lamp
- Vance Law
- Rudy Law
- Greg Luzinski
- Randy Martz
- Joel Skinner
- Mike Squires
- Greg Walker
The Sox say fans will have multiple opportunities to celebrate the 1983 club throughout the day. Planned festivities in addition to the pregame ceremony include photo opportunities and a meet-and-greet experience on the ballpark patio. The game will also feature an America’s 250th Homage T-Shirt giveaway to the first 15,000 fans at the gates.
In case that wasn’t enough nostalgia, Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) will also air the second of its two 1980s-themed throwback broadcasts during the game. The telecast will feature retro-inspired graphics, vintage-style production elements, and interviews with members of the 1983 team to recreate the feel of watching a baseball game in the ’80s. The game will also be simulcast on WCIU-TV.
As always, the list of attendees is subject to change. Additional information on reunion activities, meet-and-greet passes, and tickets can be found at whitesox.com/promos.
