The White Sox struck a trade before Saturday evening’s Crosstown matchup.
The club announced they have acquired minor-league outfielder Junior Pérez from the Athletics in exchange for minor-league left-hander Jackson Nove. Pérez has been optioned to Triple-A Charlotte and fills out the last spot on the Sox’s 40-man roster.
Pérez, 24, was designated for assignment on Thursday after batting .210/.273/.384 with five doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 19 RBI over 36 games with Triple-A Las Vegas this season. Pérez is rated as the No. 20 prospect in the Athletics system by MLB.com after an impressive 2025 campaign that featured 26 bombs between Double-A and Triple-A.
Known for his stellar defense in center, some within the A’s organization had viewed Perez’s glove as equally impressive as that of fellow center fielder Denzel Clarke. Good range and a strong arm have allowed Perez to play all three positions, but his swing-and-miss issues have hurt him significantly. That said, the 2017 international signee has begun to tap into his power over the past year while drawing his fair share of walks, leading many to believe that he can make a jump to the majors if and when his bat comes around.
On the other end of this move, the lefty reliever Nove is heading to Sacramento. The 23-year-old, who was originally signed as an undrafted free agent last July, is currently 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA (5 ER/23.0 IP) and 41 strikeouts over 12 appearances (one start) with Low-A Kannapolis. This is his first professional season after playing collegiately at the University of Kentucky, so the White Sox were willing to part ways in return for a player with potentially high upside.
