White Sox 5, Mariners 1: Pitching dominates again in comfortable win

White Sox pitching spun a gem on Saturday for the second game in a row. Seven pitchers, led by Davis Martin‘s three shutout innings, combined to hold the Mariners to a single run on seven hits.

Martin struck out four in relief of Grant Taylor, who opened the game with a shutout inning. Taylor’s fastball sat at 99.1 MPH in his scoreless frame.

Ryan Borucki, Alexander Alberto, Lucas Sims, and Tyler Schweitzer also each turned in shutout innings in the win.

On offense, Andrew Benintendi and Dustin Harris each drove in a pair of runs while logging multi-hit games.

Martin posted his best outing of the Spring, silencing Mariner bats for three innings. The right-hander used his five-pitch mix to generate six swings-and-misses.

After taking over for Acuña in the lineup, Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. His seventh inning bunt-single loaded the bases for Benintendi to drive in a pair, while his eighth inning single put the team up 5-0.

Andrew Benintendi (DH): 2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 K

Benintendi tallied a pair of singles in the win, including one in the seventh with the bases loaded that plated a pair.


Updates

Ahead of the game, the Sox announced two more roster moves. The team optioned right-hander Tanner McDougal to Charlotte and reassigned southpaw Noah Schultz to minor-league camp.

Tanner Murray left today’s game after being hit in the hand with a 96 MPH fastball. X-rays were negative, and Murray is day-to-day, per MLB.com’s Scott Merkin.
