White Sox 4, Guardians 2: Late-inning runs get the job done

by Sox On 35th Contributors

The White Sox took game two of the three-game series against Cleveland, behind a solid start from Dylan Cease. Late-inning hitting was the key to victory tonight.

As mentioned, Dylan Cease toed the rubber today and turned in a solid six-inning start. He punched out three hitters while allowing two runs. The bullpen got back on track today and locked down the later innings in this one. Keynan Middleton, Joe Kelly, and Kendall Graveman all combined for three scoreless innings to put the game away.

Yasmani Grandal opened the scoring for the White Sox with his first homer in the month of May. Then in the seventh, the damage was done. Andrew Vaughn lead off the inning with an infield single. Andrew Benintendi then doubled, and Grandal reached on an error. Vaughn came home to score on the error, making it a 2-2 ball game. After a Clint Frazier walk, the bases were loaded for Romy Gonzalez. On the first pitch, Gonzalez doubled home a pair to make it 4-2. That was all the ball club needed to secure the win in this one.

With the win, the Sox move to 20-30.

W: Dylan Cease (3-3) | L: Logan Allen (1-2) | S: Kendall Graveman (4)
