For the first time this series, the Sox locked in a win against the Tigers with a large lead and minimal stress.

Vince Velasquez took the mound today going just four innings, allowing two runs in 62 pitches. Jose Ruiz struggled in the sixth inning, leaving bases loaded and nobody out for Jimmy Lambert to fix. Tanner Banks was recalled from Charlotte and finished with his first save of his MLB career.

The bats started to come alive today, starting with an early lead in the top of the first inning as Gavin Sheets singled in Jose Abreu. Later in the second inning, AJ Pollock hit a solo home run to tie Detroit 2-2. Chicago broke up the tie in the fifth inning after Gavin Sheets walked with bases loaded. Andrew Vaughn turned this game around immediately after he hit his first career grand slam, extending the lead to 7-2. Later in the seventh, Eloy Jimenez impressed with a two-run home run, and was just a triple short of the cycle today.

With the win, Chicago moves to 76-71.
