Tale of the Tape ’05 Edition: White Sox 8, Red Sox 4

by Sox On 35th Contributors

With the start of the White Sox regular season postponed due to coronavirus concerns, NBC Sports Chicago has decided to re-air 70 victories from the 2005 season from now until June. Here at Sox On 35th, we will also be following along and recapping those games for you in our Tale of the Tape series.

Date of Game: July 22nd, 2005

The White Sox had impressed the baseball world as the season moved past the halfway point, but this midterm exam would feature a matchup with one of the beasts of the East, the defending world champion Boston Red Sox. The White Sox exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth, and survived a late charge by the Red Sox to earn an 8-4 victory. The White Sox made good use of the long ball, as homers by Rowand, Pierzynski, and Uribe propelled the offense. Jon Garland got back to his winning ways, earning win number 15. The White Sox would improve to 63-32.

Stats On 35th – Let’s Break This One Down by the Numbers

Today’s Numbers:

32.2, 31, .485

32.2

A.J.’s 1-for-4 effort, which featured three RBI, a home run, and a run scored, earned him a WPA of 32.2, the highest of the game.

31

The White Sox improved to 63-32, putting them 31 games over .500

.485

Paul Konerko is on a tear. His slugging percentage is an impressive .485. Not even players I play with in MLB The Show are that good. Or maybe I’m just bad at The Show? I don’t know. Regardless, an impressive feat.

Looking Ahead:

Next up, the Sox travel to Baltimore on August 1st, 2005. NBC Sports Chicago will air that one tomorrow at 7:00 PM CST. As always, check back here at Sox On 35th for the recap!
