Spring Training Report: Rodon Has Strong Start in White Sox 4-3 Win Over Padres

by Mark Fordon

Carlos Rodon had a solid outing, throwing 3.0 IP and allowing 1 hit with 4 strikeouts in the White Sox’ victory this afternoon. Today was a relatively slow day for the offense, scoring two runs on outs and another on a wild pitch. However, in the ninth, Luis Gonzalez hit a single into right for an RBI, which ended up being the deciding run in the win. With the win, the White Sox improved to 4-8-4 on the Spring.

W: Tayron Guerrero (1-0) L: Pierce Johnson (0-2) SV: Ryan Burr (1)

Position Players

Zack Collins went 2-3 today with a walk and a run scored while Adam Eaton was 1-3 with an RBI as well. Yermin Mercedes and Nicky Willliams also added hits for the Sox.

In the third inning, the Sox got their first run with a Nick Madrigal lineout, scoring Zach Remillard, followed by an Adam Eaton groundout RBI. Then in the fourth, Zack Collins scored on a wild pitch by Joe Musgrove. The Padres would come back to tie it late, but Luis Gonzalez saved the win with an RBI single, scoring Matt Reynolds.

Sox fans had mixed feelings when they brought Carlos Rodon back on a one-year deal. However, if he can continue to pitch like how he has this spring, he could be in store for a good season. Rodon Pitched 3 innings today with 4 strikeouts, allowing one hit.

Reynaldo Lopez relieved him, allowing two runs in 3 innings. Matt Foster threw a scoreless inning while also picking up a strikeout. Tayron Guerrero let up a run on a double in the 8th, tying the game for the Padres. Ryan Burr got the save in the 9th, striking out two in a clean inning.
