Spring Training Report: Dylan Cease Excellent as White Sox End Spring Training with 2-1 Loss

by Jordan Lazowski

All sights are now focused on the regular season, as the White Sox wrapped up their Spring Training schedule this afternoon with a 2-1 loss to the Rockies. Dylan Cease was incredibly sharp in his final tune-up, and the White Sox finished their Spring Training schedule at an even .500 record: 12-12-5.

W: Robert Stephenson (1-0) L: Connor Sadzeck (0-2) S: Zac Rosscup (1)

Position Players

Not much to speak about here, as the White Sox could only muster one run on five hits. Luis Robert, Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu, Andrew Vaughn, and Adam Eaton provided the only hits in the game, while Vaughn’s sacrifice fly was the only run.

Pitchers

The talk of the day is Dylan Cease, considering he was the only pitcher of note to take the hill. The right-hander was phenomenal today, going 5.2 IP while giving up one run on six hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts. He registered 20 swings and misses today, which is the most in a game in his career. He finished his Spring with a 1.06 ERA. This is an incredibly positive sign for the White Sox, who will be relying on Cease to help stabilize the back end of the bullpen. I’m intrigued.

Next Game

Thursday vs. Angels: Lucas Giolito (CWS) vs. Dylan Bundy (LAA), 9:05 PM CT

Forget Spring Training, now it all counts! Lucas Giolito and Dylan Bundy will begin each team’s respective battle for the 2021 World Series Championship.

This game will be televised on NBC Sports Chicago Plus and broadcasted on the radio at ESPN-1000.
