Simulated Sox: White Sox vs. Tigers, June 16th

by Joe Binder

Dylan Cease struggled with his command in a brief outing, but the offense was there to provide plenty of backup in a 12-4 win.

Yasmani Grandal torched the Detroit pitching staff all game long, going a perfect 6-for-6 with two home runs and five driven in. Edwin Encarnacion also hit a shot that bounced off the base of the scoreboard in left field. The total distance on the bomb registered at 419 feet, though that seems like it’s a bit on the conservative end.

On the mound, Cease had virtually no control. He plunked two batters in the first inning that led to some chirping from the Tigers’ bench. He finished by tossing over 90 pitches in four innings and was very lucky to escape with only four runs crossing on the opposing side.

In relief, Michael Kopech was dominant just like he was in his last outing at Comerica in 2018. He went four-strong and was still chucking up 100 mph in the 9th.

The easy win results in the Sox finally gaining a game in the standings.

FINAL: White Sox 12, Tigers 4
