Simulated Sox: White Sox vs. Cubs, July 21st

by Sox On 35th Staff

In case you may have missed it, we’ve jumped ahead a month in our simulation due to the looming return of actual baseball. The fast-forward now brings us to July 21st, a week removed from the All-Star Break. The White Sox find themselves finishing off their season series against the Cubs, with Crosstown Classic bragging rights secured after taking the first three games.

Carlos Rodon is finally healthy and made a near spotless seven-inning season debut at Wrigley. The Cubs eventually came back to spoil his fine outing by scoring five in the eighth inning to pull away with a 6-2 win.

When looking at his inning by inning pitch count, Rodon never threw more than 13 pitches in a frame. He cruised through the first six innings, but eventually ran into some trouble come the seventh when Steven Souza Jr. hit a bomb onto Waveland. Once Aaron Bummer replaced him to start the eighth, it was the beginning of the end.

At the plate, the White Sox’s main offense came in a two-run fourth inning. Leury Garcia led off with a double to left and was plated by an Eloy Jimenez single. Edwin Encarnacion also captured an RBI two-bagger to extend the team’s early lead.
