Simulated Sox: White Sox vs. Astros, June 13th

Neither side had their pitching working in their favor, so it turned into a battled of the bats. In the end, Houston used a total of five home runs to outslug the Sox, 15-11.

Ricky’s lineup came out swinging with consistent run production over the first five innings. The team scored two runs in both the first and third, followed by three runs in each the fourth and fifth innings. Luis Robert led the charge with a three-run home run to the short porch in left field, which ultimately notched him our player of the game honors.

The turning point in this one came in the fourth inning. Down 7-2, the Astros unleashed on Lucas Giolito to bring his outing to a screeching halt. The ace only managed to get one out before being pulled for struggling reliever Kelvin Herrera. Things got ugly, as the two pitchers combined to give up seven runs on six hits and a walk in the frame.

An additional two runs in the fifth and another four in the sixth put the ‘Stros ahead 15-10.  As you can guess by the final, it didn’t improve much. Alex Colome and Jace Fry attributed to the poor performance on the mound, going a combined 1.2 IP with 5 earned runs between them. Carson Fulmer and Michael Kopech, who pitched last night, finally provided some much-needed relief late, though it didn’t matter much.

Rubber match tomorrow.

FINAL: Astros 15, White Sox 11

Roster Moves: Purchased the contract of RP Tayron Guerrero from the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. RP Kelvin Herrera was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte as the corresponding move. RP Ian Hamilton was also placed on outright assignment waivers.
