Simulated Sox: White Sox vs. Astros, June 12th

Michael Kopech and Steve Cishek highlighted seven-sparkling innings by the bullpen in a wild extra-innings win over the Astros.

Houston initially jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Carlos Correa RBI-single in the bottom of the second. Shortly after, the Sox responded with a run of their own, courtesy of a Jose Abreu sac fly. The seesaw battle only continued, this time with the ‘Stros adding two runs off three hits given up by Reynaldo Lopez.

Down but not out, Ricky’s boys tacked on a pair of runs in the ninth after a big double from Jimenez and fielder’s choice from Grandal to knot it up 3-3. With the bullpen dominating Dusty Baker’s squad, the Sox’s big break came in the top of the 13th.

Tim Anderson started the inning with a single that deflected off right-fielder Josh Reddick to put the leadoff man aboard. The .327-hitting Yoan Moncada didn’t even see a pitch due to an intentional walk in the following at-bat. This only made things worse on Houston, as he and Anderson executed a double-steal to perfection to put runners on second and third with no outs. A second-straight walk issued to Nick Madrigal brought up Leury Legend, who didn’t even need to use his bat to be the hero. He too was the lucky recipient of a free pass to drive in the go-ahead run and put the Sox up 4-3.

Steve Cishek followed the series of fortunate events by only needing nine pitches to retire the side. Two of the three at-bats involved some absolutely devastating offspeed low and away get the punchouts. The epitome of brutality if you’re a fan of the ‘Stros.

FINAL/13: White Sox 4, Astros 3
