Simulated Sox: White Sox vs. Angels, April 26th

by Joe Binder

After losing the first two games of the series, the White Sox rebounded with a pair of their own. Another strong performance from the fifth man, Gio Gonzalez, allowed for smooth sailing to a 3-1 victory.

The Good Guys pounced early thanks to some Pito power and timely hitting. Jose Abreu hit a solo shot to left for the first hit and run of the ballgame. Yoan Moncada followed with a double down the line in left, only to be driven home on an Eloy Jimenez single. After hits from Yasmani Grandal and Edwin Encarnacion, the lead expanded to 3-0 which is all that was necessary in this one.

As touched on during the broadcast, the fifth rotation spot will be an interesting discussion once Michael Kopech makes his return to the squad. The back-end has impressed as of late, with Gonzalez proving yet again that he can be a dependable arm. He struck out five batters over as many innings, and left one out over the plate for an earned run on the final line. Regardless, Ricky will have a tough decision on whether to slot Kopech in the rotation immediately or ride the Reynaldo and Gio wave while it lasts.

Also, an important note after the past two games. Ricky decided to use Aaron Bummer and Alex Colome in their respective eighth and ninth inning roles in this one. Colome looked very sharp this time around after the shaky blown ninth on Friday. This seems to be a sign that he has Ricky’s full confidence so don’t expect to see a change at closer.

FINAL: White Sox 3, Angels 1
