Oscar Colas Ranked #99 Prospect in Latest Baseball America Top 100 List

by Jordan Lazowski

Colson Montgomery now has some company among the top 100 prospects in baseball.

According to Baseball America’s most updated prospect list, Oscar Colas now ranks as the 99th best prospect in baseball after being unranked as recently as early August.

Baseball America grades Colas’ tools as follows – Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Speed: 45 | Fielding: 45 | Arm: 60. There has been a lot of talk about how well Colas has played defensively in CF, and his bat has certainly shown to be as advertised when he first signed with the White Sox. The raw power continues to impress most.

On the season between High-A and Double-A, the 23-year-old Colas is hitting .320/.386/.529 with 15 home runs and 15 doubles. Colas’ performance recently in AA Birmingham has likely forced the issue here and got him on the top 100 list, as he is hitting .347/.441/.708 in 84 plate appearances in a pitcher-friendly environment.

As mentioned, Colas joins Colson Montgomery (#38) on the top 100 prospect list, though several players have made a case for current and future recognition this season. Bryan Ramos, Carlos Perez, Lenyn Sosa, and Cristian Mena are among the players who may find their way on this list soon, with FutureSox believing Ramos is likely next to climb up the ranks.

For now, the White Sox are likely thrilled to see the farm continue to show signs of improvement.
