A fresh set of odds have been released for the next White Sox manager and there is another shake-up at the top.
Former St. Louis Cardinals manager and current Padres third base coach Mike Shildt is the latest betting favorite, according to SportsBetting.ag. The change comes not long after USA Today’s Bob Nightengale listed Shildt as one of the early leading candidates.

Shildt, 54, managed the Cardinals for three consecutive playoff seasons in 2019-2021 before he was dismissed due to “differences” between himself and the front office on the direction of the team moving forward. Shildt would get no further than the NLCS in any of those three seasons, which included two Wild Card losses. He was most recently hired to serve in a player development role with the Padres on January 26, 2022, but took over as the team’s interim third base coach at the start of the season.
Of all the names listed above, none has more managerial experience and success than Bochy. A three-time World Series Champion manager, Bochy spent his career with the Padres (1995-2006) and Giants (2007-2019) before retiring in 2019. He has a career record of 2,003-2,029, including a 44-33 record in the postseason. He would bring experience to the dugout, but a previous heart condition and time spent away from the game would be natural concerns for fans. It’s still not even known if he would be open to managing again.
While these odds are purely speculative, they’ve been rapidly changing as rumors continue to circulate. Over the past week alone, we’ve already seen Bochy and Guillen take turns atop the list. This is not uncommon as betting markets often move once more information is known – whether or not it is widely available information – and bets are placed. It will be interesting to watch over the coming days and weeks as the search deepens.
