Michael Kopech switches agency to Headline Sports Group

by Jordan Lazowski

Michael Kopech has changed his representation.

According to Joel Sherman, the Chicago White Sox starting pitcher has signed with Headline Sports Group after previously being represented by CAA (Creative Artists Agency).

Headline Sports Group currently represents White Sox players Lance Lynn, Tommy Sommer, and Seby Zavala in addition to Kopech. They also represent several minor leaguers across baseball, as well as both golfers and hockey players.

There isn’t an extensive amount of information available on Headline Sports Group. The group is led by Chris Lemonis, and their slogan is as follows: “The Revolution in Sports Management starts now.”

Here is some information on the agency from their LinkedIn profile:

“We are an agency that was built from a Gap in the Sports Management industry that has grown to levels unimaginable. We are here to partner with our clients on and off the field or course. Somewhere a long the line, an agent became someone that profits off of their client’s likeness and makes phone calls only when something is needed. We simply refuse to subscribe to that model. Our clients look to us as thought leaders to work with them to truly understand their goals, outcomes and concerns. We work to customize our journey and achieve our client’s vision while building relationships that will truly stand the test of time.”

Kopech, 26, is arbitration-eligible for the first time in his career this offseason. MLB Trade Rumors projects Kopech to make $2.2M in arbitration after going 5-9 with a 3.54 ERA in 119.1 innings in 2022. Kopech will look to become a mainstay in the White Sox’ rotation over his next three years with the team, as he is a free agent following the 2025 season entering his age-30 season.

Perhaps this could be a precursor to the White Sox looking to sign Kopech to a long-term extension – Lance Lynn joined Headline Sports Group just a month and a half prior to signing his two-year, $38M extension in July of 2021. At the same time, perhaps Kopech could be looking to just ensure he gets what he deserves come arbitration discussions over the coming months.
