Here at Sox On 35th, we boast a talented and passionate group of contributors who provide coverage all year long. In this edition of our “Meet the Team” article series, we get to know Carson Kass.
About Me
I am Carson Kass, and I am a second-year Broadcast and Digital Journalism student at the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University! I am a lifetime White Sox fan from the suburbs and have followed the team closely for as long as I can remember. I have been a reader of Sox On 35th since I was just over 13-years-old in 2019.
Growing up a huge White Sox fan led me to watch tons of Jason Benetti, who’s spectacular commentary in my young life from 2016 onward, led me to fall in love with sports journalism, a dream I finally got to chase in my senior year of high-school as a writer and editor for The Blueprint, my high school newspaper. That and working within the Illinois high school Esports realm as a play-by-play commentator helped me move forward into studying journalism in college.
At Syracuse, I am one of the leaders of the student commentators for Syracuse Esports, a new challenge I picked up to learn how to adapt in a new space. I won the SU Esports Broadcaster of the Year award in my second semester in 2025, and from there have used it as a jumping-off point to work in sports.
Outside of school, I worked as a play-by-play commentator and writer for the Normal CornBelters of the Prospect League, as well as their four other collegiate teams. This upcoming summer, I will work as a member of the Tim Kurkijan Broadcasting Fellowship for the Bethesda Big Train in Maryland.
