Jose Abreu Named AL Player of the Month in August

by Jordan Lazowski

Mr. August was at it again this year, and as a result, he earned some hardware.

This afternoon, it was announced that Jose Abreu was announced August’s Player of the Month in the American League!

Abreu put up ridiculous numbers last month. In 28 games, he slashed .330/.382/.661 (1.043 OPS) with 10 HR and 25 RBI. This was good for a 182 wRC+ and an insane .435 wOBA. In other words, Abreu had himself a really nice month and was rewarded accordingly.

This isn’t the first time Jose Abreu has turned himself into “Mr. August” and gone on a tear during the dog days of summer. In fact, if you look at Jose Abreu’s career numbers by month, you’ll see one month stand out among the rest:

Jose Abreu has consistently been really good late in the season – August and September are by far the best months of his career.

This is the fourth time Jose Abreu has received a Player of the Month award, and as the White Sox head towards October, here’s hoping that Jose Abreu continues his tear and puts up solid numbers in September and beyond.

This team is going to need MVPito down the stretch. Congrats again to the big man.
