The White Sox recognized two top performers from their farm system on Saturday.
Triple-A Charlotte left-hander Hagen Smith was named the White Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month for March and April, while High-A Winston-Salem infielder Caleb Bonemer earned Player of the Month honors. The awards were voted on by a panel of Chicago-area media members.
Smith, 22, opened the season by posting a 2.33 ERA with a .162 opponents’ batting average and 29 strikeouts across six starts. He allowed two runs or fewer in each of his outings and recorded at least five strikeouts four times, including a season-high six punchouts on April 28 against Gwinnett.
Ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 62 prospect in baseball and No. 4 in the White Sox system, Smith leads the organization in strikeouts and is tied for the lead in starts. While he has yet to consistently pitch deep into games, often seeing his velocity dip by the third inning, the 2024 first-round pick appears to be among the next in line for a promotion once he builds up his arm.
Bonemer, 20, slashed .284/.396/.750 with eight doubles, 11 home runs, 27 RBI and a 1.146 OPS over 23 April games with Winston-Salem. He delivered one of the best performances of his young career on April 28 against Greensboro, going 3-for-5 with three home runs and six RBI.
The infielder has stayed red-hot at the plate, homering in four straight games and tallying seven home runs over his last 10 contests. Among qualified hitters, Bonemer ranks first in slugging percentage, tied for first in home runs, second in OPS, second in extra-base hits, fourth in RBI, and fourth in total bases.
Ranked as the White Sox’s No. 2 prospect and No. 23 overall prospect in baseball by Baseball America, Bonemer was selected in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Okemos High School in Michigan. After an impressive 2025 campaign, he has continued to showcase some of the best bat speed in the organization and projects as a potential middle-of-the-order power bat. At his current pace, a promotion to Double-A Birmingham may not be far away.
Bonemer, who ranks as the team’s No. 2 prospect and No. 23 in baseball per Baseball America, was selected by the White Sox in the second round of the 2024 draft out of Okemos (Mich.) High School. After his impressive 2025 campaign, it’s clear why the team viewed him so highly. Bonemer has some of the best bat speed in the system, and should develop into a 20-30 home run hitter at his peak. It shouldn’t be long before he receives a promotion to Double-A Birmingham.
