Eloy Jimenez to Begin Minor League Rehab Assignment

by Jordan Lazowski

With Yoan Moncada back on the field and Lance Lynn on the mend, the White Sox took another step closer to full health this afternoon. The team announced that Eloy Jimenez will begin a rehab assignment tonight in AAA Charlotte. The Knights will be playing the Durham Bulls tonight.

Jimenez has been on the injured list sine April 23 with a right hamstring strain. He received surgery on this injury immediately after sustaining it, and has been rehabbing it since then. This weekend will be his first game action since the injury. In 11 games before the injury, he hit just .222/.256/.333 with a homer and a 70 wRC+. The White Sox will definitely be looking for Jimenez to hit for more power, as in April he had an astronomical 67% ground ball rate – far too high for a slugger like Jimenez.

The White Sox are likely hoping that Jimenez can return during their next homestand, which would start June 7th against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With Moncada and Luis Robert coming back from more minor injuries, hopefully the team can be at full strength at that time and begin to turn their .500 season around.

We will provide you more updates as they become available on Jimenez’s status!
