Andy Masur to replace the late Ed Farmer as radio play-by-play voice of the White Sox

by Joe Binder

Nearly three months after the loss of long-time radio broadcaster Ed Farmer, the Chicago White Sox have revealed that Andy Masur will become the new radio play-by-play voice of the team for the 2020 season.

Masur, a member of WGN since 2014, will be joining Darrin Jackson in the booth for broadcasts on WGN and the White Sox Radio Network. The veteran broadcaster has done a variety of roles for the team’s radio including pre-game and post-game hosting duties as well as play-by-play on several occasions over the past few seasons. The Chicago-area native boasts over 20 years of Major League play-by-play experience, previously serving in roles with the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs, while also calling NCAA basketball games during the offseason for nearly the same length.

“I am truly honored and humbled to join my friend Darrin Jackson in the White Sox radio booth this season,” said Masur. “Many people before me have said legends cannot be replaced, and the great Ed Farmer is truly irreplaceable. As a fellow Chicagoan, I hope my passion for the city and the game of baseball connects with White Sox fans in a way that Ed would be proud. I want to thank the White Sox and WGN Radio for this fantastic opportunity.”

Although he’s got some big shoes to fill, Masur is an excellent choice and should make for some very enjoyable broadcasts this season. Make sure to give him a follow on Twitter @Andy_Masur1.
