2021 Spring Training Report: Excitement Building as Camp Rolls On

by Sox On 35th Contributors

We are just two days away from the first White Sox spring training game at Camelback Ranch, where the Sox will face off against the Milwaukee Brewers this Sunday at 2:05 P.M Central time. Excitement and optimism continue to grow in Glendale.

Moncada Easing into Camp as he looks to bounce back in 2021

The White Sox announced that Yoan Moncada’s throwing ability is being constricted due to some regular early soreness, but that it should not be an issue going forward. Manager Tony La Russa stated that Moncada has a chance to play Sunday, but more than likely the team will be cautious with him. Moncada has stated that he feels great, fully recovered from his COVID-19 effects and disappointing 2020 performance.

Luis Robert, the 6 Tool Player

It’s no surprise to see more and more praise for Robert, who showed flashes of incredible ability in 2020 and left a remarkable impression on many both inside and outside of the organization. Robert, however, knows that his play was less than stellar down the stretch, and has high expectations for himself going into the 2021 season.

Sox poised to have an Elite Bullpen in 2021

The White Sox had an excellent relief corps in 2020, which featured breakout seasons from pitchers such as Matt Foster and Codi Heuer. The group believes they will be even better in 2021, and perhaps the best in baseball. While it’s been rumored for awhile, Tony La Russa confirmed Friday that Michael Kopech and Garret Crochet will both open the season in the big league bullpen.

Said relief pitcher Evan Marshall last week, regarding the bullpen, “I think anything short of elite would be a disappointment”.

Morale and camaraderie high as team prepares for the start of ST games

The White Sox have high expectations for themselves in the 2021 season, and many of their recent comments reflect that. The team has a growing sense of confidence, and La Russa has seemingly gained the respect of the players, several of whom have noted his knowledge of the game and commitment to winning.

White Sox officially announce signing of Cuban Pitching Prospect Norge Vera

The White Sox have been rumored for months to have an agreement with the top Cuban pitching prospect, but it was announced officially by the team Friday.
